Koontz, Miranda, Jones, Smith win Pan American Greco-Roman golds, and Boykin adds a bronze

ACAPULCO, Mexico – The US received gold medals in 4 of the seven Greco-Roman weight lessons contested on the primary day of the Pan American Championships on Thursday and added a bronze medal for a five-medal haul.

Claiming gold medals for Group USA had been Brady Koontz at 55 kg, Randon Miranda at 60 kg, Sam Jones at 63 kg and two-time World Group member Pat Smith at 77 kg. It was a fourth profession Pan American Championships title for Smith, whereas Koontz, Miranda and Jones received their first Pan American Championships title.

Koontz clinched the gold medal within the morning session, beating each of his opponents in a three-athlete roundrobin. He completed with a forfeit over Gemerson Moura Dos Santos of Brazil.

Miranda received his first profession Senior Pan American title with a 12-8 victory over Samuel Gurria Vigueras of Mexico.
